Thai Authorities Probe Alleged Overpricing at Michelin-Starred Raan Jay Fai
Bangkok restaurant investigated after influencer billed four thousand baht for omelette listed at fifteen hundred
A London-based Thai influencer has sparked an official probe after claiming she was charged four thousand baht for a crab omelette listed at fifteen hundred baht at the Michelin-starred Raan Jay Fai restaurant in Bangkok.
She said she did not request premium ingredients nor was informed of a higher price—only later being told the surcharge was due to 'a better source' of crab meat.
This led the Department of Internal Trade to launch an investigation into potential overcharging.
Under Thai law, establishments can face fines up to ten thousand baht for overbilling, and a further ten thousand baht penalty if price variations for special dishes are not clearly displayed.
Authorities plan to contact both the influencer and the restaurant operator to assess compliance with the Pricing of Goods and Services Act.
Raan Jay Fai, located on Mahachai Road in the Phra Nakhon district, is run by chef Supinya 'Jay Fai' Junsuta, who earned international recognition for her crab omelette and holds a Michelin star.
