Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Pumtham Wechayachai has clarified that there will be no change in Thai leadership, responding to statements made by Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen. Hun Sen suggested that Thailand would have a new prime minister within the next three months but did not specify who this would be.
Pumtham described Hun Sen's comments as politically motivated and not to be taken seriously.
In the context of regional dynamics, Pumtham emphasized that Thailand is approaching Cambodia’s efforts to garner international attention with caution, relying on verified facts and existing agreements.
He mentioned that Thailand is meticulously documenting all relevant incidents.
Regarding concerns over electricity supply, Pumtham provided an update on Cambodia's plans to cut electricity exports to Thailand.
He stated that while Cambodia had intended to implement electricity cuts at nine different points, it has only proceeded with three cuts, and power is still flowing through six points.
The situation is being managed in accordance with current agreements between the two nations, and Pumtham indicated that Cambodia remains cooperative despite issuing statements that may be viewed as attempts at psychological pressure.
On the Khlong Luek border issue in Sa Kaeo, Pumtham addressed concerns about the varying opening times of border crossings, which had led to complications.
After discussions between the two countries, it has been reported that border crossings have returned to normal operation.
