Cathay Pacific Issues Apology After Toddler Served Wine on Flight
Three-year-old boy mistakenly given white wine instead of water during business class meal service on Hong Kong to London flight
On April 24, 2025, during Cathay Pacific Flight CX255 from Hong Kong to London, a three-year-old boy traveling in business class was inadvertently served a glass of white wine instead of water.
The child took a sip and remarked that the drink tasted sour, prompting his parents to investigate and discover the error.
Upon realizing the mistake, the cabin crew replaced the wine with water and apologized.
A French doctor on board assessed the child and found no immediate health concerns.
The crew also consulted MedLink, an in-flight medical advisory service, which advised monitoring the child and ensuring he stayed hydrated.
The airline offered compensation, including a refund of the child's ticket, three one-class upgrade vouchers, and coverage for any medical expenses related to the incident.
Despite these measures, the child's parents expressed dissatisfaction with the airline's response and have filed complaints with regulatory authorities in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom.
Cathay Pacific has launched an internal investigation and stated that it is reinforcing crew training to prevent similar incidents in the future.
