Advances China into Exclusive Stealth Fighter Club
China has introduced its latest stealth fighter jet, the J-35A, making it the second country after the United States to have two types of stealth jets in active service.
This development follows the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force's deployment of the J-20 heavy-duty stealth fighter, which has been in service since late 2016 and made its debut at the 11th Zhuhai Airshow in November that year.
The J-35 family, including variants for both the Air Force and aircraft carriers, stems from the FC-31 prototype designed by the Shenyang Aircraft Design and Research Institute under the Aviation Industry Corp of China.
The FC-31 first flew publicly at the Zhuhai Airshow in 2012, marking China's second 5th-generation fighter prototype after the J-20.
The prestigious Zhuhai Airshow, officially known as the China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, stands as a major global defense exhibition.
