Between August 1 and 9, 2025, the Thailand Mine Action Centre (TMAC) deployed 15 operational units alongside Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams to support the Suranaree Task Force and Provincial Police Region 3 in clearing munitions from four provinces bordering Cambodia. The clearance targeted ordnance left in the wake of recent cross-border hostilities.
A total of 384 explosive items were recovered, including BM-21 rockets, artillery shells, mortar rounds, and other ordnance. The distribution of recovered munitions by province was as follows:
The clearance took place amid heightened tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border following armed clashes in late July that resulted in at least 43 fatalities and the displacement of over 300,000 people. Despite a ceasefire agreed at the end of July, multiple incidents involving landmines and explosive remnants have been reported in contested areas, including zones near historic temple sites.
Thai military reports indicate that explosive devices have been found in proximity to civilian areas and agricultural land, necessitating rapid clearance to prevent further casualties. The recovered ordnance has been transported to secure military facilities for disposal.
This clearance operation follows previous joint efforts by Thai army engineering units and local security forces to remove hazardous remnants from disputed zones along the border.
