Flood Risks Escalate for Bangkok's Chao Phraya River Areas
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration warns of increased flood risks from October 14-23 due to rising Chao Phraya river levels and high tides. Areas lacking permanent barriers, including Dusit, Phra Nakhon, and other districts, are advised to take precautions as water discharge increases from upstream. Heavy rainfall in the northern regions further compounds the danger.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has issued a flood warning for areas along the Chao Phraya River without permanent barriers, with increased flooding risks from October 14-23.
Due to heavy rainfall in the northern, northeastern, and central regions, combined with water discharged from the Chao Phraya Dam in Chai Nat province, residents are urged to move belongings to higher ground and monitor river levels closely.
Flood-prone areas, based on 2022 data, include Dusit, Phra Nakhon, Samphanthawong, Bang Kholaem, Yanawa, Bangkok Noi, and Klong San districts.
The Chao Phraya Dam was releasing water at a rate of 2,199 cubic meters per second on October 7.
Additional flooding from the rain-swollen Ping River in Chiang Mai has exacerbated the situation, as it contributes to the Chao Phraya River's surge.
