Heavy Rain Forecasted Across Upper Thailand Amidst Tropical Weather Changes

Moderate southwest monsoon brings warnings of flash flooding and thundershowers nationwide.

Thailand's Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for heavy rain across upper Thailand, with expectations of widespread thundershowers, particularly in mountainous regions and low-lying areas. The forecast is influenced by a moderate southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, the Gulf of Thailand, and much of the region.

Authorities have advised residents in upper Thailand to remain vigilant regarding potential heavy rainfall and the associated risk of flash flooding, especially in foothill areas and near waterways. The TMD also urged farmers to take precautionary measures to protect their crops from the adverse weather conditions.

In addition, the TMD reported moderate wind and waves in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand, with wave heights ranging from 1 to 2 metres, increasing in thundershower areas. All maritime activities are advised to exercise caution and avoid operating under hazardous conditions.

The weather forecast for different regions of Thailand today includes:

  • North: Fairly widespread thundershowers expected, with isolated heavy rain reported in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Uttaradit, and Phitsanulok. Temperatures are predicted to range from 24 to 26 degrees Celsius for minimums and 33 to 36 degrees Celsius for maximums.

  • Northeast: Scattered thundershowers, with isolated heavy rain, are anticipated in Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, and Nakhon Phanom. Minimum temperatures will be between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius, while maximums will vary from 32 to 36 degrees Celsius.

  • Central Region: Scattered thundershowers, with isolated heavy rainfall in Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, and Ratchaburi. Minimum temperatures are expected to be 24 to 26 degrees Celsius, and maximums will be in the range of 33 to 35 degrees Celsius.

  • East: Scattered thundershowers in Nakhon Nayok, Chanthaburi, and Trat, with minimum temperatures of 24 to 27 degrees Celsius and maximums from 31 to 34 degrees Celsius.

  • South (East Coast): Isolated thundershowers are expected in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat, with temperatures between 24 to 25 degrees Celsius for minimums and 33 to 35 degrees Celsius for maximums.

  • South (West Coast): Scattered thundershowers are forecasted for Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, and Trang, with minimum temperatures ranging from 24 to 26 degrees Celsius and maximums from 32 to 35 degrees Celsius.

In a related update, the TMD noted that Tropical Storm "WUTIP" over Guangxi, China, has weakened into a tropical depression. Travelers are advised to stay informed on weather conditions prior to embarking on journeys.
