Thailand’s Anti-Online Scam Operation Centre Receives WSIS Prizes 2025
The recognition highlights Thailand's efforts in enhancing security and confidence in ICT use amid rising online scams.
Thailand's Anti-Online Scam Operation Centre (AOC) has been awarded the WSIS Prizes 2025 during the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) +20 High-Level Event held in Geneva.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Prasert Jantararuangtong, who received the award alongside the ministry's permanent secretary, Wisit Wisitsora-at.
The AOC was recognized in Category 5, which focuses on Building Confidence and Security in the Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), part of 19 selected projects out of 973 submissions from around the globe.
The AOC was launched on November 1, 2023, positioning itself as Thailand’s primary authority for addressing online scams.
The centre's objectives include immediate freezing of criminal accounts to prevent further victim losses, ongoing case tracking to facilitate justice for victims, streamlining reimbursement processes for efficient restitution, and enhancing law enforcement capacities for robust investigations into cybercrime.
Since its inception, the AOC has processed over 1.18 million reported cases, successfully preventing an estimated economic loss exceeding 20 billion baht and achieving a 42% reduction in online crime damages.
This initiative aligns with the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) goals to build confidence in ICT use and supports the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals by promoting equitable access to digital technologies.
Additionally, the AOC's implementation of artificial intelligence systems and advanced data analytics bolsters its capabilities in online threat detection and mitigation, contributing to the objectives of the Global Digital Compact.
Minister Prasert stressed that the WSIS Prizes 2025 recognition marks a significant achievement for Thailand on the international digital landscape.
He noted the importance of continued development in technology and fostering cooperation at both national and regional levels to promote sustainable digital growth and security for citizens against online threats.
