The high-speed rail project connecting Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, and U-Tapao airports in Thailand, worth 276.5 billion baht, is currently on hold awaiting the appointment of a new chairman for the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Policy Committee.
The Eastern Economic Corridor Office (EECO) has announced that this appointment, which requires approval from the yet-to-be-formed new Cabinet, is expected within the year.
Chula Sukmanop, the secretary-general of the EECO, stated that construction areas under state responsibility are fully prepared for handover to the contractor, Asia Era One.
The initiative is slated to start soon after the new chairman’s appointment and aims to complete by 2029.
The project saw a significant move when the Cabinet approved contract amendments on October 19, 2021.
