Mae Mali's 59th Birthday Celebrated at Khao Kheow Open Zoo
Mae Mali, the longest-lived female hippopotamus in Thailand, celebrated her 59th birthday at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi. Zoo director, staff, tourists, and students gathered for the occasion, providing a giant cake made of Mae Mali's favorite fruits and vegetables. Supporters donated funds for her health care, and if she remains healthy, Mae Mali could become the world's longest-lived hippo.
Mae Mali, the longest-lived female hippopotamus in Thailand, celebrated her 59th birthday at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi.
Zoo director Narongwit Chodchoi, staff, tourists, and students gathered to mark the occasion, providing Mae Mali with a giant cake made of her favorite fruits and vegetables.
The celebration also included birthday wishes, games, and an exhibition about Mae Mali’s history.
Supporters like Rachata Setvoradej donated 20,000 baht for Mae Mali's health care.
Mae Mali, originally from Tilburg Zoo in the Netherlands and relocated to Khao Kheow in 2018, has had 14 offspring.
She remains healthy and could potentially become the world's longest-lived hippopotamus.
Meanwhile, the zoo's latest star, Nong Moo Deng, a female pygmy hippo, is drawing visitors with her playful antics.
