MG Aims for 5% Market Share with Launch of NEW MG IM6 Premium Electric Vehicle

MG introduces its latest premium EV, the NEW MG IM6, priced from 1,399,900 baht, reinforcing its commitment to the Thai automotive market.
SAC Motor-CP Co., Ltd. and MG Sales (Thailand) Co., Ltd., the manufacturers and distributors of MG cars in Thailand, have announced their business strategy for the current year, targeting a 5% market share.

The company plans to expand its portfolio with new electric and hybrid vehicles by 2026. The latest model, the NEW MG IM6, a premium electric vehicle, is set to be launched at a starting price of 1,399,900 baht, with deliveries expected to begin in April.

MG has been notable for its continued transformation within Thailand's automotive industry by offering high-quality vehicles that cover a wide range of driving styles across various segments.

As of now, sales have accumulated to over 220,000 units, including over 32,000 vehicles exported from its manufacturing base in Thailand to the ASEAN region.

In its second decade, MG remains committed to developing and introducing high-performance, environmentally friendly products, with plans to launch additional electric and hybrid models by 2026. The introduction of the NEW MG IM6 marks a significant step for the brand, with the vehicle themed “I'M WHO I’M,” designed to provide an elevated driving experience, blending luxury with effective utility for customers seeking stylish electric coupe SUVs.

The NEW MG IM6 has garnered the 2024 Red Dot Product Design Award for its elegant exterior design, adhering to the concept of Gentle Sculpture, which incorporates aerodynamics to enhance performance and efficiency.

Inside, the vehicle is designed for comfort with unique POPO Sofa seats that prioritize softness for an enjoyable ride.

Entertainment is enhanced with two large Intelligent Immersive Touch Screens—an intelligent digital display of 26.3 inches and a central touch screen of 10.5 inches.

Both screens support the IM OS intelligent command system developed by Alibaba Group and have also received a Red Dot Design Award in the Brand & Communication Design category.

Surround sound features include 20 speakers, providing an immersive audio experience during travel.

As a high-performance electric vehicle, the NEW MG IM6 boasts advanced technological features with IM Digital Chassis for balanced driving and high efficiency, powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor generating a maximum power of 778 horsepower and torque of 802 Newton-meters.

Its 100 kWh lithium-ion battery supports voltage up to 875 volts, achieving a driving range of 634 kilometers on a single charge based on NEDC standards.

The vehicle also features an Intelligent Four-Wheel Steering System for improved lane stability and ease in tight spaces, alongside One Touch iAD for side parking assistance and automatic reverse in dead-end situations.

Additionally, the Crab Mode function allows all four wheels to turn at the same angle for maneuvering out of restricted spaces.

Moreover, the NEW MG IM6 incorporates a new generation Cooling System that can reduce temperatures by 15 degrees Celsius in just 30 seconds and utilizes the 800V Dual SiC Platform, enabling rapid charging capabilities within its class and effectively extending its range per charge.

With a lifetime warranty on the battery, motor, and control unit, the vehicle is designed with the ADVANCED SYNCHRONIZED PROTECTION SYSTEM and ADAS features for enhancing safety and minimizing accident risks, having been tested to achieve a 5-star rating from China NCAP and designed to comply with EURO-NCAP standards.

Additional smart technologies include Auto Park Assist for automated parking ease in confined spaces and an Intelligent Rainy Night Mode for improved visibility under challenging weather conditions.

The NEW MG IM6 also features Intelligent Air Suspension that adjusts ride height to optimize comfort and stability across varying driving conditions.

Suw Yin, Managing Director of MG Sales (Thailand) Co., Ltd., highlighted the brand's commitment to learning and adapting in response to the challenges faced during periods of global economic uncertainty and rapid technological change.

He emphasized the initiative to set new standards for the electric vehicle industry in Thailand, aiming to enhance consumer driving experiences as a key factor in MG’s growth.

The company aims to solidify partnerships across various sectors in Thailand to promote sustainable development through innovative solutions, with a target of increasing market share to 5% this year while intensively pursuing business objectives to position MG among the top five brands within its second decade in Thailand.
