Nation Group ventures into second Thai film production as investor
Nation Group (Thailand) Pcl is heightening its involvement in the Thai film industry by investing in "Nak Ruk Mak Makk Mak," its second film project.
This romantic comedy draws from the famed Thai ghost story of "Mae Nak Phra Khanong."
Shine Bunnag, the company's chairman and CEO, mentioned both of their film projects are produced by the same company. The first film is set to premiere in May. With popular Thai comedians Mum, Teng, and Nong on board, Shine expressed his enthusiasm for the project.
He also noted the potential for Thai cinema to gain international prominence, supported by the government's backing as part of the country's cultural influence.
Nation Group, a longstanding provider of news in Thailand, is venturing into film production with confidence, leveraging its existing network and resources.
The film is a collaborative production involving Nation Group as an investor, Black Dragon Entertainment as promoter and distributor, and two production firms, Transformation Film and Bangfire Film Entertainment.
The project kicked off with a ceremonial blessing at Wat Mahabut, home to a shrine honoring the story's ghost, Mae Nak.
The film features well-known Thai actors and marks comedian Nong Chachacha's directorial debut. Despite its ghostly theme, the film aims to be a lighthearted romantic comedy.
It reinvents the tale of Mae Nak, who awaits her husband's return from the war as a ghost, and in this version, she time travels to 2024 to reignite love with her reincarnated husband, without the aid of her supernatural abilities.
Filmmakers are urging audiences to see the film in theaters to support the Thai entertainment industry.
