Phuket will implement a ban on all trucks with 10 or more wheels from traveling on the island's roads during weekday morning and evening rush hours, starting next Monday.
The restriction, announced by Phuket Deputy Police Chief Pol Col Passakorn Sonthikul, will prohibit these trucks from entering Phuket between 6am-9am and 4pm-7pm.
This measure is intended to reduce traffic congestion, particularly from Phuket Airport to downtown.
The ban does not apply on weekends and public holidays.
Currently, around 230 heavy trucks from Phangnga enter Phuket during the restricted hours, contributing to traffic issues.
Trucks needing to operate during banned periods must seek prior permission from the police, who will respond within 24 hours.
