Pink Line Monorail Extension in Bangkok Nears Completion, free trial rides in June

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has announced significant progress on the Pink Line monorail extension from Si Rat Station to Muang Thong Thani.
As of the end of April 2025, civil works are reported to be 97.01% complete, while the installation of the rail system stands at 99.41%.

This brings the overall progress to 97.81%.

Northern Bangkok Monorail Co., Ltd. (NBM), the project concessionaire responsible for the main Pink Line, which connects Khae Rai to Min Buri, has commenced testing of train movements and system integration along the new extension section.

The designated testing route connects the operational Muang Thong Thani Station (PK10) to two new extension stations: IMPACT Muang Thong Thani (MT01) and Lake Muang Thong Thani (MT02).

Initial system testing is expected to last between 1 to 2 months, leading to a trial run planned for May 2025 that will simulate actual operational conditions.

Following this phase, the MRTA has scheduled a free public trial service for late June 2025, with full commercial operations anticipated to start on July 19, 2025.

The fare structure for the new extension will range from 15 to 22 baht, and the line is expected to be incorporated into a 20-baht flat fare scheme by September 2025.

The Pink Line extension, utilizing a monorail system, aims to enhance Bangkok's urban rail network and improve public transit usage.

It is designed to alleviate traffic congestion on Chaeng Watthana Road and contribute to a reduction in PM 2.5 pollution levels in the region.

Key details regarding connectivity and station features are as follows:

- The main Pink Line will connect with the extension at Muang Thong Thani Station (PK10), which includes three platforms:

- Platform 1: Trains heading towards Nonthaburi Government Center Station (PK01).

- Platform 2: Trains heading towards Min Buri Station (PK30).

- Platform 3: Trains on the extension line heading to IMPACT Muang Thong Thani Station (MT01).

- IMPACT Muang Thong Thani Station (MT01) offers four exits, providing access to various locations including Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, Wat Phasuk Maneechak School, IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Centre, and Soi Chaeng Watthana-Pak Kret 39.

- Lake Muang Thong Thani Station (MT02) also has four exits, leading to Muang Thong Thani Lake, Soi Chaeng Watthana-Pak Kret 39, Somdet Phra Srinagarindra Park, and the IMPACT area.

Additionally, a skywalk is currently under construction to connect MT01 Station directly to the Challenger Hall, facilitating easier access for passengers attending various events, exhibitions, and concerts at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani.

Commuters can utilize Exit 3 at MT01 to reach the venue directly.
