PM and Ministers Inspect Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal Ahead of Songkran Holidays, Urge Safety Measures and Upgrades
Prime Minister and Finance Minister Srettha Thavisin inspected Mo Chit 2, Bangkok's largest bus terminal, on April 7, 2021.
The terminal serves provinces in the North and Northeast and is a popular destination during the Songkran holidays, which run from April 12 to 15.
The premier was accompanied by Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Tourism and Sports Minister Sudawan Wangsupakitkosol, and executives of Transport Company, the state-run interprovincial bus agency that operates the terminal.
The group checked the terminal's readiness for the upcoming holiday travel season.
Srettha Thavisin, a transportation official, emphasized the importance of bus driver readiness and drug screening to ensure safe travel during the holiday season, which is known for increased road accidents due to speeding and drunk driving.
The Prime Minister inspected renovation projects at Mo Chit 2 bus terminal, including the terminal building, bus waiting areas, restrooms, and food court.
He suggested installing LED monitors in the waiting areas to generate income through advertising and entertain passengers.
Srettha also spoke with passengers at the terminal to gather feedback on the upgrades to Mo Chit 2.
The majority of people surveyed reported that the terminal had significantly improved.
Srettha gave it an 8 out of 10 rating.
Deputy Transport Minister Surapong Piyachote instructed Mo Chit 2 officials to help travelers during Songkran and prevent stranding.
Officials were also told to patrol the area to stop ticket scalpers and illegal taxis, and all bus drivers had to pass an alcohol test before operating vehicles for passenger safety during the Songkran exodus.
