Samui International Airport plans to increase daily flights from 50 to 73 following a surge in tourist arrivals on Koh Samui, Surat Thani province.
This decision came after the airport saw over 1.4 million passengers from January to June 2023, a 22% increase from last year, signaling recovery from Covid-19.
Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit announced that the expansion includes the passenger terminal and additional facilities over the next three years.
The airport, situated in Bo Phut subdistrict, aims to enhance boarding gates, check-in counters, luggage carousels, and commercial areas to 4,000 square meters.
Currently, it handles 16,000 passengers per day with 11 flight routes operated by multiple airlines, including Bangkok Airways, Scoot Airlines, and Tibet Airlines.
