Siam.AI to Invest 70 Billion Baht in Thailand's AI Infrastructure Expansion
Investment aims to establish Thailand as an AI hub in Southeast Asia, enhancing cloud computing capabilities and local enterprise support.
Siam.AI Cloud, an artificial intelligence cloud provider based in Bangkok, has announced plans to invest 70 billion baht this year to enhance its AI infrastructure, positioning Thailand as a potential AI hub in Southeast Asia.
This announcement follows the approval from the Board of Investment (BoI) for an initial investment of 3.2 billion baht for the establishment of AI cloud infrastructure in Chonburi and Pathum Thani provinces.
Ratanaphon Wongnapachant, CEO of Siam.AI Cloud, indicated that the company has already invested 10 billion baht in AI-ready infrastructure, asserting Thailand's potential as an AI center.
This investment included 7 billion baht allocated specifically for the acquisition of a NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 supercomputer module.
The deployment of the NVIDIA module, which is designed to enhance AI and high-performance computing capabilities, is expected to bolster various sectors including healthcare, finance, manufacturing, and urban development.
The supercomputer module will be hosted at the ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT Bangkok 1).
Siam.AI is recognized as the first Nvidia Cloud Provider (NCP) in Asia to utilize such a supercomputer module, highlighting the company's commitment to establishing 'AI sovereignty' in Thailand.
This initiative aims to ensure that local enterprises and government bodies have access to top-tier computing resources without dependence on foreign cloud services.
Wongnapachant stated that the investment related to the supercomputer module is anticipated to yield a return within 18 months.
Additionally, Siam.AI is exploring partnerships to construct its own data centers designed to deliver a total capacity of 200 megawatts (MW), with the first phase targeting an initial setup of 100 MW. An unnamed source suggested a potential partnership with Dubai's Damac for this development.
In a related development, Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology division of Alibaba Group, unveiled plans for its second data center in Thailand on February 13, 2025. This new facility aims to enhance local capacity to accommodate the increasing demand for cloud computing services, with a particular focus on generative AI applications.
The launch supports Thailand's digital innovation initiatives and sustainable technology growth.
Alibaba Cloud previously established its first data center in Thailand in 2022. Following the opening of this new facility, the company now operates 86 availability zones across 28 regions worldwide, reinforcing its presence in the Southeast Asian cloud services market.
