Thailand and China have inaugurated a visa-free travel policy for tourists, strengthening their nearly 50-year diplomatic relationship.
From March 1, Thai nationals can enter China without a visa, adding to the excitement for those looking to explore Chinese attractions visa-free.
This follows Thailand's temporary visa waiver for Chinese visitors since September 25, allowing a 30-day stay. The visa exemption will now be reciprocated, becoming permanent.
Deep-Rooted Connections
The friendship between Thailand and China goes back to the 14th century, with significant historical exchanges and trade lasting until modern times. After a frosty period post-World War II due to differing political alliances, the two nations resumed diplomatic ties on July 1, 1975.
Simplified Travel
The announcement of the visa-free era, made during Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s Bangkok visit, will facilitate 30 days of visa-free travel for citizens of both countries, with a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period. The policy aims to increase tourism and cultural interactions, with significant interest already shown by Thais.
While there's enthusiasm, some concerns linger about the potential for increased scrutiny by Chinese immigration officials.
Travel Tips for Thais
Experts suggest that Thai tourists ensure their passports have a six-month validity, possess proof of round-trip tickets and hotel bookings, alongside sufficient funds and travel insurance for the stay in China. Due to widespread mobile payment use in China, linking credit cards to Alipay or WeChat is advised since many small shops don't take cash or credit cards.
Additionally, Thai visitors are recommended to activate mobile roaming for internet services since many popular platforms are inaccessible in China.
Optimal Visiting Seasons
The best times to visit China are in the spring (late April to early June) and autumn (September to October), thanks to favorable weather. With its vast size, China offers diverse attractions, from natural wonders and ancient sites to bustling cities and unique culinary experiences. Key destinations include Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and several others.
