Thailand and Singapore Mark 60 Years of Diplomatic Relations with Celebrations

The Thai Embassy in Singapore hosts events to commemorate six decades of diplomatic ties and strengthen future cooperation.
The Thai Embassy in Singapore held a two-day event to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Singapore, featuring a series of cultural and diplomatic activities.

The celebration kicked off on February 13, 2025, with the event 'Celebrating 60 Years Shared Journey of Thailand and Singapore,' attended by key figures from both countries, including high-ranking government officials and business leaders.

Ambassador Ureerat Chareontoh emphasized the longstanding cooperation between the two nations, citing historical milestones that trace their relationship back to the reign of King Rama IV in the 19th century.

On February 14, the 'Orchids from the Land of Smiles' exhibition opened at Gardens by the Bay, showcasing over 60 Thai orchid species.

The exhibition, which runs until mid-May 2025, reflects the cultural connection between Thailand and Singapore, with orchids symbolizing beauty, strength, and elegance.

Minister Indranee Rajah, the Senior Minister of State for Finance and Ministry of National Development of Singapore, graced the event as the guest of honor.

The exhibition also featured Thai craftsmanship, such as architectural symbols and royal regalia.

The two nations established formal diplomatic ties in 1965, with Thailand being one of the first countries to recognize Singapore’s independence.

Thailand and Singapore remain key partners in areas such as trade, economics, and digital technology, including the successful PromptPay-PayNow initiative, a cross-border payment system that serves as a model for regional cooperation.

In addition to these events, Thailand and Singapore have plans for more celebrations throughout 2025, including an academic seminar and an exhibition highlighting the history of their diplomatic ties.

Cultural exchanges, such as the annual Thai Festival, continue to strengthen the friendship between the two nations.

Over one million Singaporeans visited Thailand in 2024, and many Thais choose Singapore for travel, education, and work opportunities.

This year-long celebration is a testament to the enduring friendship between Thailand and Singapore, rooted in both government-level cooperation and strong people-to-people ties.
