Ukrainian Diplomat Pushes for Enhanced Relations with Southeast Asia
Amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia, Ukraine is committed to building stronger relations with Southeast Asian nations.
Ukrainian Chargé d'Affaires Viktor Semenov emphasized this dedication during an interview with the Bangkok Post, highlighting Ukraine's desire to foster partnerships across technical, agricultural, and cultural domains.
Despite the 1,000-day war with Russia, Kyiv is actively engaging with Asean countries to promote mutual growth and secure assistance.
On February 29, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry unveiled a policy paper, 'Ukraine-Asean: Vision of Cooperation,' outlining future collaboration.
Notably, Ukraine and Thailand have established cooperation in agriculture, digital economy, trade, and more, while also working on cultural projects, like a Ukrainian-Thai poetry collection.
Despite war-induced disruptions in trade and travel, Mr. Semenov assures that Thailand-Ukraine relations remain robust, anchored by mutual understanding.
He also calls for stronger economic ties and political dialogues with Thailand, envisioning the establishment of a Joint Trade Commission.
Additionally, Ukraine seeks increased humanitarian aid and technical support, particularly to maintain energy security amidst constant Russian aggression.
Semenov underlines Ukraine's determination for peace based on Ukraine's involvement and respect for its territorial integrity.
Finally, he stresses the importance of mental health support for Ukrainians affected by the prolonged conflict.
