Airports of Thailand to Compensate Residents for Noise Pollution
B12 Billion Set for Suvarnabhumi's New Runway Noise Impact
Airports of Thailand (AoT) is set to allocate 12 billion baht in compensation for residents affected by noise pollution from the third runway at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
The decision was finalized after discussions involving AoT, the Transport Ministry, and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), aiming to address residents' concerns regarding the noise from increased airplane traffic.
Transport Ministry deputy spokesman, Kittiphon Ruayfuphan, announced that compensation rates were determined in accordance with legal standards.
Residents are categorized into those legally entitled to compensation, those with problematic land ownership, and those technically unqualified.
Eligible residents will receive payments once the details are sorted, and assistance will be provided for those with land ownership issues.
The Pollution Control Department will assess claims from those in close proximity but without land ownership to confirm their eligibility.
The BMA, led by council chairman Surajit Phongsingwitthaya, is facilitating communication and petition processes for affected residents.
The new runway, situated parallel to the first and measuring four kilometers in length, enhances Suvarnabhumi's capacity from 68 to 94 planes per hour.
Initial compensation disbursements are expected early next year.
