Bangkok to Implement Temporary Ban on Polluting Trucks in Nine Districts
Restrictions aimed at combating hazardous air pollution during peak periods
Starting next year, Bangkok will enforce a temporary ban on polluting trucks with six or more wheels in nine districts whenever PM2.5 fine dust particles reach hazardous levels above 75 µg/m³.
Announced by Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, the measure aims to mitigate air pollution worsening during the cool season.
The affected districts—Bang Rak, Dusit, Klong San, Pathumwan, Phaya Thai, Phra Nakhon, Pomprap Sattruphai, Samphanthawong, and Sathon—are within the city's inner ring road.
The ban, activated with 24-hour notice, will last three days, with exemptions for trucks on the BMA's 'green list.' Violators face fines or jail.
The BMA will leverage the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act for enforcement, utilizing CCTV to monitor compliance.
Additionally, remote working is advised when pollution reaches critical levels.
This initiative forms part of broader efforts by the Thai government to address PM2.5 pollution, deemed a national health threat.
