Celebrating Trailblazing Thai Women with Global Influence
On International Women’s Day, Thai PBS World shines a spotlight on eight Thai trailblazers who are making waves internationally:
1.
Nualphan Lamsam, known as "Madame Pang," steers both Muang Thai Insurance and the exclusive distribution of Hermes in Thailand. As a significant figure in Thai sports, she has led the national women's football team and made history as the first female president of Thailand's Football Association in its 103-year existence.
2. Ariya Jutanugarn, a standout Thai golfer, became the first from her country to clinch an LPGA championship. Along with her pro-golfer sister, Moriya, they received the Public Diplomacy Award 2023 for promoting Thailand in the women's international golf scene.
3. Fawn Veerasunthorn, a creative force from Chonburi, transitioned from medicine to the arts and contributed to Disney hits like "Raya and the Last Dragon." Her vision has left an indelible mark on animation, including the success of films such as "Frozen" and "Moana."
4. Saiphin Moore, starting with a humble noodle stall at 14, now revolutionized Thai culinary presence in the UK with her 40-outlet chain, Rosa's Thai Cafe, thus becoming a renowned Thai chef and entrepreneur.
5. Alice Bhandhukravi, a familiar face on the BBC, covers significant stories in London and represents her Thai heritage on British television. Her journey from finance to journalism has turned her into a role model for diversity in the media.
6. Adulaya "Kim" Hoontrakul is driving Thai art onto the world stage as the director of Bangkok's Art and Culture Centre (BACC). Presiding over a hub of Thai creativity, she connects over 1.5 million yearly visitors with Thailand’s diverse art scene.
7. Pannabha Chandraramya, Thailand's Ambassador to Israel, played a pivotal role during the Israel-Hamas conflict, working relentlessly to locate Thai hostages and aid Thai workers amidst the turmoil.
8. Krisana Kraisintu, the "Gypsy Pharmacist," gained recognition for her humanitarian pharmaceutical work, including her pivotal innovations in treatments for HIV/AIDS and malaria. Her commitment earned her the honor of medical scientist of the year.
