Dhanin Chearavanont, chairman of Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group, has outlined significant opportunities for Thailand's agricultural industry, particularly focusing on durians and water management.
With China's durian consumption showing potential for growth, Dhanin suggests promoting Thailand's high-quality durians and developing processed products like ice cream and sweets.
He emphasized the need for government support in finance, technology, and knowledge for durian farmers.
Additionally, Dhanin highlighted the potential of genome-edited soybeans to reduce pesticides and improve quality, as well as the growing demand for nutritious, ready-to-eat meals for non-communicable disease patients.
He stressed the importance of collaboration between government and private sectors in developing 'food as medicine.' Furthermore, Dhanin urged investment in irrigation systems to enhance crop yields, farmers' incomes, and food security.
Effective water management, he noted, is vital for Thailand's long-term economic growth and prosperity.
To drive this development, he called for government efforts in human resource education, attracting foreign experts, and supporting research and development in irrigation technologies.
