Phuket governor Sophon Suwannarat led a major clean-up operation on Monday morning after flash floods hit the popular island due to torrential rains.
The effort saw the involvement of provincial police chief Pol Maj-General Sinlert Sukhum, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Area 18 director Kas Sentoyeb, officials from the Third Naval Area, and various local agencies and foundations.
The operation primarily focused on the Kamala area in Kathu district, using bulldozers and water trucks to clear mud and clean the roads.
Essential supplies were distributed to the affected residents.
Other heavily impacted areas included Thalang province’s sub-districts of Sri Sunthorn, Thep Kasattree, Ban Don, and Choeng Thalay.
Though most floods had subsided, Kasattree and Ban Don remained inundated, with about 50 residents taking refuge in a school.
The Royal Irrigation Department was enlisted to install water pumps to ensure all roads are dry and accessible by Tuesday.
