Chinese Manufacturers Invest Over 547 Billion Baht in Thailand's Industrial Estates
Amata City Rayong Emerges as Preferred Destination for Chinese Industrial Investments
Chinese manufacturers have significantly increased their investments in Thailand, establishing over 500 factories with a combined investment exceeding 547.76 billion baht in recent years, according to the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT).
These ventures have generated approximately 152,541 jobs across seven industries.
Amata City Rayong has become the most popular industrial estate for Chinese manufacturers, with a large number of factories located there.
In 2024, Chinese investments in Thai industrial estates saw a 43.1 percent year-on-year increase, totaling 109.09 billion baht, up from 76.21 billion baht in 2023. The number of Chinese companies operating in these estates rose from 133 in 2023 to 203 in 2024, employing a total of 30,260 local workers, an increase from 18,979 the previous year.
The IEAT has also launched initiatives like the "Two Countries, Twin Parks" collaboration to attract more Chinese investors, aiming to strengthen investment and trade between Thailand and China.
Overall, foreign direct investment in Thai industrial estates has been robust, with China accounting for 23.68 percent of the total 14.76 billion baht invested in February 2023, followed by Singapore with 12.41 percent, Japan with 11.65 percent, India with 6.39 percent, and Taiwan with 6.02 percent.
