Government Reduces Rice Export Licence Fees to Boost Small-Scale Farmers
Relaxed export restrictions aim to end monopoly in rice industry, allowing farmers to sell directly to global markets
The government has announced a reduction in rice export licence fees, effective May 14, as part of efforts to dismantle monopolies in the sector.
The new regulations, approved by the cabinet, will see traders of rice intended for international markets pay lower fees to secure export permits.
Exporters with a registered capital of between 5 million and 10 million baht will be charged 10,000 baht for the licence, while medium-sized exporters with a registered capital of between 10 and 20 million baht will pay 30,000 baht.
Large-scale exporters with registered capital of over 20 million baht will still be required to pay 50,000 baht.
The government has also reduced the licence fee for exporters of packaged rice to 10,000 baht, down by half, and waived licence fees and renewal fees for general rice exporters and packaged rice exporters registered with state agencies.
The move aims to enable small-scale farmers to export rice directly to global markets, improving their livelihoods and promoting long-term economic stability in the industry.
