Japanese automaker Honda is moving car manufacturing from Ayutthaya to Prachinburi, reducing production capacity by 50% due to market conditions and EV competition. The Ayutthaya plant will now produce automotive parts. Honda plans over 50 billion baht investment in Thailand, including a shift to electric vehicles.
Japanese automaker Honda is restructuring its manufacturing operations in Thailand by shifting car production from its Ayutthaya plant to its facility in Prachinburi province.
The Ayutthaya plant will now produce automotive parts.
This strategic move is influenced by a 50% reduction in Honda's production capacity in Thailand, from 270,000 to 140,000 units annually, driven by market conditions and competition from electric vehicles (EVs).
Despite this adjustment, Honda plans to invest over 50 billion baht in Thailand over the next five years, including shifting from internal combustion engine vehicles to EVs. The Board of Investment (BOI) underlines governmental support through technological advancements and new measures set to be announced soon.
There are also plans to promote new industries such as EV components, aerospace parts, and medical devices.
