Microsoft Deepens AI Commitment in Thailand with New Cloud Region and Skills Initiatives
Strategic partnership with Thai government to build AI-powered future, expanding infrastructure, talent and enterprise innovation
Microsoft has reaffirmed its strategic commitment to accelerate Thailand’s progress toward a digital and AI-powered future under the initiative titled “Building Thailand’s AI-Powered Future,” unveiled in collaboration with the Royal Thai Government.
The announcement, delivered alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas representing Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, marks a major step in Thailand’s push to embed artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure across its economy.
Under the initiative, Microsoft plans to develop new cloud and AI infrastructure in Thailand, including a local cloud region and data-centre ecosystem that will support high-performance AI services with compliance to Thailand’s data-residency regulations.
Strategic partners named include CP Group, TRUE Corporation and its data-centre arm TRUE IDC, along with GULF Development and Advanced Info Service (AIS).
The infrastructure is intended to enable Thai businesses and developers to build, deploy and scale AI solutions locally.
A key component of the collaboration is a dramatic expansion of AI-skills development programs.
Microsoft said it will extend training and certification to educators, social-sector professionals, and workers, aiming for a multiplier effect across classrooms, industries and communities.
The company will work with the Thai government to equip new generations with AI literacy, and support transformation of enterprises through AI-enabled workflows.
Among featured early adoptions is the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), which is using Microsoft’s cloud and AI capabilities to modernise its operations, optimise processes and develop new services.
Additional collaborations include KBTG, the tech unit of Kasikornbank; and SCBX, which are building AI-first systems, agentic platforms and next-generation banking experiences using the forthcoming cloud region.
Microsoft also supports the public-sector Office of the Council of State (OCS) to deploy an AI solution powered by Azure OpenAI for Thailand’s accession to the Organisation for Economic Co‑operation and Development (OECD), accelerating legal alignment across thousands of Thai statutes.
Deputy Prime Minister Nitithanprapas described the commitment as reinforcing Thailand’s pivotal role in global digital innovation and aligning with the government’s economic strategy to promote advanced-technology industries as engines of sustainable prosperity for all Thais.
In his statement, Microsoft Asia President Rodrigo Kede Lima said the initiative reflects Microsoft’s confidence in Thailand’s capabilities and its dedication to inclusive innovation, adding that the company is proud to empower Thai organisations and individuals with infrastructure, skills and trusted partnerships.
The timing of the announcement coincides with Microsoft’s broader Southeast Asian push and the Thai government’s ambition to become a regional hub for AI and digital innovation.
By anchoring the local cloud region, scaling enterprise adoption and embedding AI literacy nationwide, the partnership lays a foundation for Thailand to capture the economic growth and productivity gains associated with the AI era.
It signals a deepening of the technology-ecosystem and positions Thailand as a strategic growth market for global tech platforms as digital transformation advances across the region.
