Severe Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Expected in Southern Thailand
Flood risks and safety measures as heavy rain is forecasted in southern provinces
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for significant rainfall in the southern provinces of Thailand, including Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat.
The heavy showers are expected to persist until November 30.
Residents, particularly those in low-lying and mountainous areas, face heightened risks of flash floods, landslides, and water surges along rivers.
In Narathiwat, officials are closely watching water levels in Rangae, Muang, and Yi-ngo districts due to ongoing heavy rain.
Precautionary measures include the readiness of water pumps, distribution of sandbags, preparation of evacuation shelters, and standby rescue equipment.
Additionally, the National Water Resources Office has directed agencies to release water from major reservoirs, such as the Bang Lang Dam in Yala, to manage the incoming rainfall.
