Industry Minister Assures Investors: Ayutthaya Industrial Estates Deemed Flood-Proof
Thanakorn inspects Bang Pa-in estate and affirms robust flood defenses across three industrial zones
Industry Minister Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana has reassured investors that the three major industrial estates in Ayutthaya—Bang Pa-in, Saha Rattana, and Hi-Tech—are fully protected against flooding this year, despite heavy water inflows from upstream provinces.
During a visit to the Bang Pa-in Industrial Estate, he inspected its flood-prevention infrastructure and operational readiness.
Thanakorn noted that the estates have absorbed lessons from the 2011 floods and now deploy a comprehensive mix of floodwalls, high-capacity pumping systems, and coordinated operational commands.
He directed that the Bang Pa-in estate cooperate closely with Saha Rattana and Hi-Tech to share resources during emergencies and maintain unified command for rapid response.
The estates also employ flood-forecasting simulation models using rainfall and Chao Phraya river data from recent years.
“I’m confident the three estates will not be flooded this year,” he asserted, pledging that the ministry would spare no effort to safeguard industrial zones and investor assets.
Sumet Tangprasert, governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT), emphasized the close collaboration between the estates, the Royal Irrigation Department, and local authorities.
He detailed key actions such as dredging internal and external canals, reinforcing embankments, inspecting and repairing flood barriers, pre-positioning emergency tools, monitoring water levels and weather in real time, and coordinating 24/7 field monitoring.
Estate management has also run drills to rehearse flood response plans and maintains ongoing communication with factory operators.
The Bang Pa-in Industrial Estate, located in a strategic manufacturing hub, hosts over 100 factories—particularly in electronics and automotive components—and employs thousands of workers.
The estate is equipped with more than 50 water pumps and an emergency operations centre to track flood conditions around the clock.
Local context provides urgency to the minister’s assurances: Ayutthaya province is already experiencing widespread flooding following heavy rainfall and increased discharge of water from the Chao Phraya Dam, affecting over 25,000 households across six districts.
While residential zones lie outside the estates’ floodwalls, the industrial zones are spared by design, according to official statements.
The government's message is clear: industrial operations will remain secure even as surrounding areas weather the flood challenge.
