Survey Reveals Extensive Online Scam Targeting and Rising Child Abuse Cases in Thailand

The survey findings were highlighted during Safer Internet Day Thailand 2025 at Chulalongkorn University.
The event, organized by Thai Health Promotion Foundation, the Internet Foundation for Thailand Development, UNICEF Thailand, and Chulalongkorn University, featured seminars, exhibitions, and workshops over a two-day period, with organizers expecting more than one hundred thousand attendees.
The program focused on online safety, reflecting concerns over digital risks and the increase in cases of online child abuse.
Dr Pongtep Wongwatchara-paiboon, manager at Thai Health Promotion Foundation, noted that internet penetration in Thailand has reached eighty-eight percent, representing a threefold increase over the past decade.
Kyungsun Kim, director of UNICEF Thailand, emphasized the importance of strengthening government mechanisms and policies to protect children from online threats.
Srida Tanta-atipanit, managing director of the Internet Foundation for Thailand Development, detailed rising concerns over online child sexual exploitation and abuse, as well as issues related to online gambling, electronic cigarettes, and call-centre scams.
The event provided a platform for stakeholders to share data and collaborate on strategies to enhance digital literacy and safety across Thailand.
