Thai Government Acknowledges 'The White Lotus' and Lisa for Boosting Koh Samui Tourism
HBO series and BLACKPINK star contribute to increased international interest and luxury bookings on the island
The Thai government has expressed gratitude towards HBO's series 'The White Lotus' and Lalisa Manobal, popularly known as Lisa from BLACKPINK, for significantly enhancing Koh Samui's appeal to international tourists.
The third season of 'The White Lotus,' featuring Lisa in her acting debut, has been filmed across various Thai locations, including Bangkok, Phuket, and Koh Samui.
Notable filming sites include the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui, Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort, Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas, and Rosewood Phuket.
Since the season's premiere, there has been a 40% surge in accommodation searches and hotel rates for Koh Samui, particularly at properties where filming occurred.
This trend is complemented by a 65% increase in interest from American tourists and a 12% rise in searches via the Agoda booking platform.
The influx of tourists is anticipated to sustain throughout the year, bolstering Thailand's position as a premier filming destination.
In 2024, foreign film productions in Thailand generated investments exceeding 7 billion baht, creating employment opportunities for approximately 29,000 Thai workers.
The government's collaboration with international productions continues to enhance the country's global profile and stimulate economic growth.
