Thailand Advances Future Mobility and Urban Development Through Strategic Partnerships

TAPMA announces Future Mobility Thailand 2025, while UR and Chulalongkorn University collaborate to enhance sustainable urban planning.
The Thai Auto Parts Manufacturers Association (TAPMA) has announced the launch of Future Mobility Thailand 2025, under the theme "Driving Tomorrow: Innovating for a Sustainable and Connected Future." This inaugural event aims to position Thailand as a hub for automotive technology and future mobility manufacturing, taking place from April 3 to 5, 2025, at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC) in Bangna.

Supported by the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), the exhibition will bring together various stakeholders in the automotive sector, including auto parts manufacturers, electric vehicle (EV) technology developers, supply chain service providers, research institutions, and global investors to explore business opportunities and foster international partnerships.

Mr. Suphot Sukphisarn, Deputy Secretary-General of TAPMA, emphasized the significance of the event for Thailand's auto parts industry, stating the country's preparedness to embrace emerging technologies such as electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), autonomous vehicles, and connected technologies.

Thailand currently leads ASEAN in automotive manufacturing, producing over 1.9 million vehicles annually and ranking among the top 10 globally.

By 2024, it is projected that exports in automotive and auto parts will contribute 12% to Thailand’s GDP, with export values exceeding 1.02 trillion baht.

Key features of Future Mobility Thailand 2025 will include a keynote address by H.E. Mr. Akanat Promphan, Minister of Industry, along with insights from industry leaders.

The event will showcase several specialized zones:

E-PARTS & MOBILITY REVOLUTION ZONE: Highlighting EV components and innovative mobility technologies.

ADAS & ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS ZONE: Focusing on advanced driver assistance systems and in-car entertainment.

BGC GREEN PRODUCT & ALTERNATIVE ENERGY ZONE: Presenting eco-friendly automotive products and alternative energy solutions.

PERFORMANCE PARTS, ACCESSORIES, MAINTENANCE & CAR CARE ZONE: Featuring high-performance automotive accessories and maintenance technologies.

PARTS TRANSFORM ZONE: Demonstrating diversification of the auto parts industry into sectors like medical equipment and aerospace.

Mr. Swaek Prakitritanon, Vice President of TAPMA’s Foreign Affairs Department, noted that the event would be crucial in strengthening Thailand's position as a global auto parts production hub.

There are currently over 1,800 manufacturers in Thailand that are aligned with future mobility trends, supporting major global automotive brands.

Thailand's role as a leading EV market in ASEAN is being bolstered by increased adoption rates and the establishment of production bases by various Chinese automakers.

Battery electric vehicle sales are projected to exceed 100,000 units in 2024, with significant contributions from brands like BYD, NETA, and GWM.

The Thai government’s "Japan First" policy aims to attract high-tech automotive investments, focusing on internal combustion engine vehicles as well as EVs and hybrids.

In a related development, Japan’s Urban Renaissance Agency (UR) and Chulalongkorn University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance urban development initiatives in Thailand.

This agreement, formalized on March 11, 2025, seeks to enhance sustainable urban planning through research, infrastructure projects, and innovative solutions to urban challenges such as traffic congestion and urban sprawl.

UR specializes in Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) and brings extensive experience from over 500 urban projects in Japan.

Chulalongkorn University, known for its research excellence, will collaborate on urban development projects with both domestic and international agencies.

The partnership aims to co-host a forum to stimulate dialogue on sustainable urban futures in Thailand.
