Thailand Prepares for Heavy Rainfall as Tropical Storm Wipha Approaches
Tropical Storm Wipha is expected to bring widespread heavy rainfall across multiple regions in Thailand.
Thailand’s Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding Tropical Storm Wipha, which was classified as a strong storm over the northern South China Sea at 10 PM local time on July 19.
The storm, with maximum sustained winds reaching 93 kilometers per hour, is currently moving towards the Gulf of Tonkin and northern Vietnam.
Meteorological forecasts indicate that Wipha is likely to weaken into a tropical depression between July 21 and 22 as it progresses.
The interaction of Tropical Storm Wipha with the prevailing southwesterly monsoon is anticipated to result in widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand from July 20 to July 24.
Regions identified as likely to experience significant rainfall include the North, Northeast, Central, East, and South of Thailand.
The weather conditions are expected to pose potential risks, particularly in areas susceptible to flooding and landslides.
