Stimulus Initiatives Aim to Support Vulnerable Groups and SMEs
Thailand's government has implemented a wide-ranging economic recovery programme to address the slowdown impacting industrial, agricultural, and trade sectors.
The initiative aims to support vulnerable populations and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which make up 90% of Thai businesses.
Key measures include a 10,000-baht cash handout to 14.6 million vulnerable people, debt relief for farmers, and a visa-free scheme to boost tourism.
Alongside these efforts, a nationwide programme running from September 2023 to January 2025 seeks to reduce SME expenses through rent and shipping fee cuts, enhance sales opportunities by providing market spaces, and lower the public's cost of living via discount partnerships with major manufacturers.
The government expects these initiatives to inject up to 110 billion baht into the economy, increasing spending among vulnerable groups, reducing business costs, and promoting consumer spending through organized sales events.
Authorities hope these efforts will effectively stimulate the Thai economy and support all population sectors.
