Airports of Thailand aims to elevate Suvarnabhumi to global rankings by using Changi Airport as a benchmark.
Airports of Thailand (AoT) is striving to position Thai airports among the world's top 20 within five years, drawing inspiration from Singapore's Changi Airport.
Permanent Secretary for Transport Chayatan Phromsorn stated that the Ministry of Transport has tasked AoT with enhancing Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok to achieve global acclaim.
After visiting Changi Airport, Chayatan discussed possible collaboration with Changi Airport Group's CEO, Yam Kum Weng.
AoT president Kerati Kijmanawat mentioned that expansion plans are underway to increase the capacity of Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports to accommodate 200 million passengers annually.
Suvarnabhumi will undergo significant upgrades, including an expansion of the existing terminal and the construction of a new South Terminal designed as a 'mega terminal' to support 150 million passengers per year.
Don Mueang Airport is also expanding to handle 50 million passengers annually.
New technologies such as self-check-in kiosks and eGates are being introduced to improve service efficiency.
Furthermore, Suvarnabhumi will feature a commercial space inspired by Jewel Changi Airport.
Beyond infrastructural upgrades, AoT plans to introduce relaxation and play zones, as well as develop 'green airport' initiatives with Changi, including the use of sustainable aviation fuel and solar energy systems.
