Tourism Minister reports significant influx of foreign visitors, with notable contributions from China and other markets.
As of February 9, 2025, Thailand has welcomed approximately 4.8 million foreign tourists since the start of the year, generating an estimated revenue of over 234.9 billion baht.
The announcement was made by Sorawong Thienthong, Thailand's Minister of Tourism and Sports, on February 13.
Chinese tourists have emerged as the largest group, with 825,617 entries, followed by Malaysia with 617,631 visitors, Russia with 330,628, South Korea with 263,572, and India with 232,828.
This influx highlights the importance of the tourism sector to Thailand's economy.
Between February 3 and February 9, 2025, there was a 4.15% increase in arrivals from long-haul markets, particularly noted for a significant rise in visitors from Russia and France, which increased by 41.53%.
Factors contributing to this surge include targeted market promotion, additional flight options, and seasonal school holidays.
In contrast, short-haul market arrivals exhibited a decline following the Chinese New Year celebrations.
Notably, arrivals from South Korea decreased due to various domestic issues, including aviation safety concerns, political challenges, and fluctuations in currency value.
Overall, Thailand experienced 837,407 foreign arrivals in the first week of February, marking an 11.57% decrease or 109,551 fewer visitors than the previous week, with an average of 119,630 daily arrivals.
Moving forward, arrivals are anticipated to stabilize, bolstered by government initiatives, including the "Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025" campaign, alongside other tourism and sports-related activities aimed at enhancing visitor numbers.
The Thai government is also implementing security measures aimed at re-establishing trust among international visitors, particularly from China.
