True Corporation Maps Out Thailand’s AI Strategy under New Chief Executive
Sigve Brekke outlines infrastructure, data and talent pillars at Bangkok forum
True Corporation has presented a comprehensive artificial intelligence roadmap emphasising four strategic pillars: infrastructure and technology, high-quality data, talent development and leadership, and policy and governance.
Group Chief Executive Officer Sigve Brekke unveiled the roadmap during a keynote at a business forum in Bangkok on July 25.
Mr Brekke stated that Thailand already possesses strong digital infrastructure—including fibre networks, robust telecom systems and wide 5G coverage—and said continued investment is needed to support AI‑driven transformation.
He identified data as a national strategic asset, calling for both public and private sectors to focus on organising and structuring data so it can be used effectively across industries.
Addressing talent, Mr Brekke highlighted the importance of digital skills across the workforce, advocating AI education starting at middle school and within public agencies.
He noted growing demand among younger generations for professional growth opportunities and urged private companies to invest in upskilling.
On policy and governance, True’s chief executive stressed the need for clear national AI strategies, trustworthy systems and strong data‑sovereignty frameworks.
He said that regulatory clarity should accompany transparent, ethical and inclusive AI practices.
True Corporation also outlined three strategic missions for its transformation: to build a trusted brand with excellence in network experience, to harness AI for all citizens, and to foster a customer‑obsessed culture.
The company plans full network modernisation across Thailand by the third quarter, following completed upgrades in Phuket.
The group’s leadership structure includes Manat Manavutiveth as President and CEO for Enterprise & Data Business, and Sharad Mehrotra as President and CEO for Consumer Business.
In early 2025, True became the first telecom operator in Thailand to adopt the GSMA’s Responsible AI Maturity Roadmap and is preparing the launch of its Responsible AI by Design programme to ensure ethical implementation.
Financial data show that True posted a net profit of approximately one point six billion baht in the first quarter of 2025, with adjusted earnings around four point three billion baht.
It has also pledged to pay dividends for the first time in more than twenty‑five years.
Industries adopting AI within True include customer service, network energy management—where AI tools have delivered up to fifteen per cent energy savings—and data centre operations.
Following its 2023 merger with dtac, True Corporation now commands a majority share of Thailand’s mobile market, with about fifty million subscribers.
Its transformation drive includes unifying CRM, ERP and billing systems, expanding AI‑powered customer touchpoints, and investing in smart city connectivity solutions and digital infrastructure across the region.
