Train travel between Bangkok and Beijing is getting closer to reality.
The State Railway of Thailand has announced a trial service between Bangkok and Vientiane, Laos, on July 13 and 14. This new link aims to improve transport between Thailand, Laos, and China, making it possible to travel by train from Bangkok to Beijing with stops in Vientiane and Kunming.
This 3,200-kilometer journey will take nearly a full day, compared to a five-hour non-stop flight. The new route will boost trade and tourism, as Thailand aims to enhance its connectivity with China, its top trading partner.
Thailand's exports to China reached almost $32 billion last year, while imports from China were valued at $65.3 billion. Strengthening tourism ties, visitors from China can stay in Thailand for up to 60 days, and Thai tourists can stay in China for 30 days.
Additionally, a high-speed rail project linking Thailand to China through Laos is set to launch by 2028, promising further growth for the tourism sector.
