Regional collaboration aimed at managing disinformation with new guidelines
The ASEAN-Australia Workshop on managing government information to combat fake news and disinformation began on October 1, 2024, in Jakarta, Indonesia. The event, running until October 3, aims to familiarize participants with the ASEAN Guideline on handling disinformation, while fostering regional cooperation in addressing this pressing issue.
Opening the workshop, Ichwan Makmur Nasution, Head of the Centre for International Affairs at Indonesia’s Ministry of Communications and Informatics, stressed the need to strengthen the ASEAN Task Force on Fake News (TFFN) and the importance of strategic communication in countering disinformation. Participants will have the chance to share experiences, explore lessons learned, and discuss good practices, with topics including artificial intelligence, public emergencies, and access to reliable information for vulnerable groups.
