Bangkok Raids Seize Over 94,000 Illegal Chinese Products
Large-scale operation targets labeling violations in Chinese supermarkets
In Bangkok, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), along with police and district officials, conducted raids on 47 Chinese supermarkets over a three-month period, from July 31 to November 4, 2024.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 94,476 illegal Chinese consumer products spanning 341 categories.
The FDA's deputy secretary-general, Lertchai Lertvut, announced that these products were confiscated due to breaches in labeling regulations, specifically the absence of Thai-language labels.
Violations can lead to fines of up to 30,000 baht for food products and up to 10,000 baht or a jail term of up to one month for cosmetics.
Consumers are urged to purchase only products with proper Thai labels, providing essential information such as food names, manufacturers, importers, manufacturing and expiry dates, and FDA registration numbers.
