Cabinet Waives Tolls on Motorways 7 and 9 during Songkran Holiday: Estimated Cost of Bt190 Million, Projected Economic Benefit of Bt285 Million
The Thai cabinet has announced that tolls will be waived on national motorways 7 and 9 during the Songkran festival, which is set to take place from April 11 to April 17.
This decision was made in anticipation of the heavy traffic expected during the long holiday, with an estimated 5.1 million vehicles expected to use these routes.
The waiver is projected to cost the government approximately Bt190 million in lost revenue.
However, the economic benefits are expected to outweigh the costs, with savings of around Bt285 million in time and expense for motorists.
National motorway No 7 connects Bangkok to Pattaya, while No 9 is located on Kanchanapisek Road, between Bang Pa-in and Bang Plee and Phra Pradaeng-Bang Khun Thian.
The toll fee waiver is intended to ease the burden on travelers during the busy holiday period and promote economic activity.
Deputy government spokesperson, Karom Phonphonklang, made the announcement on behalf of the cabinet.
