Chiang Rai Airport Flights Cancelled Due to Flooding
All flights at Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai International Airport were canceled due to severe flooding on September 12, 2024. Passengers were advised to avoid the airport because access roads were waterlogged. Authorities took measures to provide essentials and arrange evacuations while the airport remained operational using backup power.
On September 12, 2024, all flights at Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai International Airport in Muang district were canceled due to severe flooding.
The last flights were AirAsia FD 3209 from Bangkok and FD 3210 to Bangkok, departing at 1:10 PM.
Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit advised the public to avoid the airport due to waterlogged access roads.
He instructed enhanced flood measures and asked Airports of Thailand President Kirati Kitmanawat to provide essentials and arrange evacuations.
Despite the flooding, airport operations continued with backup power.
The floodwater impacted only the entrance and staff housing, not the terminal or runways.
