Thailand warns of escalation as Cambodia ignores border agreement in Trat
Thai navy reports Cambodian encroachments and demands removal under RBC agreement
Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachiayaphan of the Royal Thai Navy has warned that Cambodia’s ongoing encroachments into Thai-claimed territory in Trat Province risk escalation if Phnom Penh fails to adhere to the Regional Border Committee agreement.
He said Cambodian forces have built operational bases, homes, and conducted agriculture in Ban Chamrak, Chamrak Subdistrict, Mueang District, in three separate locations along the border.
Despite repeated notices from Thai authorities, structures remain, and trenches built by Cambodia overlap Thai-claimed land by up to one hundred and twenty-five metres in one area.
The Thai Chanthaburi-Trat Border Defence Command, relying on maps at a scale of one to fifty thousand and citing the terms of the RBC and MOU-43, has called for Cambodia to withdraw its personnel and remove the constructions.
Local Thai forces say they will monitor the situation closely and are prepared to escalate if the agreement is ignored further.
