A modern China with a huge population is a chance, not a threat, for the United States, said Wang Shouwen, China's Vice-Minister of Commerce, during discussions with Marisa Lago, the US Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, in Tianjin. The meeting aimed to address trade tensions and emphasized lifting all US tariffs on Chinese goods while discussing concerns about overcapacity and trade restrictions.
A senior Chinese official emphasized that a modern China with a vast population should be viewed as an opportunity, not a threat, for the United States.
Wang Shouwen, China's Vice-Minister of Commerce, discussed the matter with Marisa Lago, the US Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, in Tianjin on Saturday.
The meeting, the second this year, addressed trade tensions between the two nations.
China’s commerce ministry reiterated the importance of lifting all US tariffs on Chinese goods, especially amidst potential tariff increase announcements by the Biden administration.
The Ministry described the talks as “professional, rational and pragmatic,” focusing on issues like US tariffs and opposition to trade restrictions based on overcapacity.
Washington argues that China's overcapacity has led to dumping cheap products in foreign markets.
