First US F-35 Squadron Joins Multilateral Drill in Thailand
Alaska's inaugural squadron of four F-35 jets has landed at the Royal Thai Air Force's Wing 1 in Nakhon Ratchasima, gearing up for the "Cope Tiger 2024" joint exercise.
The Royal Thai Air Force anticipates the arrival of an additional four F-35s to complete an eight-aircraft squadron.
"Cope Tiger 2024" is a significant tripartite training operation involving Thailand, Singapore, and the US, focused on enhancing military cooperation in Southeast Asia.
Originating in the Philippines in 1983 as "Air ThaiSing" and "Cope Thunder," the exercise moved to Nakhon Ratchasima in 1995 due to unrest in the Philippines and was renamed "Cope Tiger."
Scheduled from March 18 to 29, this year's "Cope Tiger" will feature field exercises throughout Nakhon Ratchasima, Lopburi, and Udon Thani. Additionally, participants will engage in community and cultural exchanges at Ban Krok Duean Ha School on March 21 and the Chai Badan Air Weapons Training Range on March 26.
