The government is advocating for a bill aimed at promoting the quality of life and welfare protection for 20 million informal workers, including internet influencers, farmers, and other independent laborers.
Labour Ministry spokesman Phumiphat Mueanchan announced that the ministry is presenting the bill to the cabinet, aiming for parliamentary approval.
The bill seeks to integrate workers such as freelancers, vendors, artists, YouTubers, and food delivery riders into a formal social welfare scheme.
Since current labor laws do not recognize these workers, they lack access to universal state health insurance and other basic labor rights.
The new bill will include social security coverage, workplace safety, and rights protection for these workers.
Additionally, it will enable better policy-making and budget allocation through systematic registration.
Labour Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn has also backed the 'Kru Kor' project, which trains local leaders and volunteers to inform informal workers about the new bill to ensure prompt registration.
