Summer Storm System Expected to Strike 48 Thai Provinces Including Bangkok
Authorities warn of thunderstorms, strong winds and possible hail as seasonal storms sweep across northern and central Thailand
Thailand’s disaster prevention authorities have issued a warning that summer storms are expected to affect forty eight provinces across the country, including Bangkok, as unstable weather conditions move across upper Thailand.
The alert follows monitoring by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and the Thai Meteorological Department, which forecast thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, heavy rain in some areas and possible hail during the storm period.
The system is expected to impact northern, northeastern and central provinces as well as the capital and its surrounding areas.
Meteorologists say the storm activity is being triggered by the interaction of a moderate high pressure system moving south from China with hot conditions already present across much of upper Thailand.
At the same time, westerly winds moving across the region are contributing additional instability in the atmosphere, creating conditions favorable for sudden summer storms.
Officials have advised residents in affected provinces to remain vigilant during the forecast period, particularly in areas prone to strong winds and lightning.
People are encouraged to avoid open spaces, large trees and unstable structures during storms, while farmers have been urged to protect crops and livestock from potential wind and hail damage.
Bangkok authorities have also cautioned residents to prepare for heavy rain and gusty winds that could lead to localized flooding or travel disruptions.
Residents are advised to avoid flood prone routes and monitor official weather updates as conditions evolve.
Seasonal storms of this kind commonly occur in Thailand during the transition from the dry season into the hotter months, when high temperatures combine with incoming cool air masses from the north.
The collision of these weather systems can produce intense but short lived storms, often accompanied by lightning and strong winds.
Disaster response agencies across the affected regions have been instructed to monitor developments closely and prepare emergency response teams should severe weather lead to damage or localized flooding.
Authorities continue to urge the public to follow weather advisories and safety guidance as the storm system moves across the country.
