Thailand Approves Immediate Work-From-Home Policy for State Agencies to Conserve Energy
Cabinet orders remote work across government offices, limits overseas travel and introduces new electricity-saving measures while essential services remain fully operational.
Thailand’s Cabinet has approved an immediate policy allowing government agencies to implement full work-from-home arrangements as part of a broader effort to manage resources and reduce energy consumption across the public sector.
Under the measure, ministries and state agencies are permitted to shift staff to remote work where operationally feasible.
Authorities emphasised that agencies responsible for essential public services will continue operating as normal to ensure uninterrupted support for the public.
The decision forms part of a coordinated government response aimed at improving administrative efficiency while also reducing energy demand in public buildings.
Officials stated that the policy allows departments to quickly adjust working arrangements without disrupting core services or national administrative functions.
Alongside the remote work directive, the Cabinet has instructed government officials to suspend overseas travel unless attendance at significant international meetings is required.
The move is intended to prioritise essential diplomatic and policy engagements while limiting non-critical travel by state personnel.
The Energy Ministry has also introduced additional measures designed to reduce electricity use across government offices.
Agencies have been asked to adjust air-conditioning systems to operate at temperatures between twenty-six and twenty-seven degrees Celsius, a level considered effective for maintaining workplace comfort while lowering power consumption.
Government offices are also being encouraged to expand broader electricity-saving practices, including improved management of lighting and equipment use during working hours.
The ministry is preparing further proposals aimed at strengthening national energy conservation efforts and is expected to present additional recommendations for Cabinet consideration.
Officials say the coordinated measures demonstrate the government’s proactive approach to responsible energy management while maintaining the continuity of public services throughout the country.
